A page I follow on Facebook is currently running a fun mail art project. Using the theme of "Turquoise" people have been asked to send a postcard sized piece of work to her in Austria!

After painting on the wet paper I noticed some appearing all over it, I'm guessing this is the gelatine size coming to the surface. It looks a bit messy to be honest, and I'm a bit disappointed! I'm just trying out some new watercolour paper that I bought just before Xmas. Fabriano 5 Hot Pressed 300gs I bought it to use with coloured pencils but it seems quite toothy.
It seems nice with watercolour pencils used wet but for a paper with only 50% rag content it works out no better value than 100% cotton rag. Mainly owing to the size of the sheet which is only about 2/3rds the size of a sheet of Fabriano Artistico. Having said that I'm happy with it and its nice to use so give it a try if you can get hold of some. OK, yesterday I told you about the papyrus that I had just bought to try out. CP's and watercolours didn't seem to work so in the end I tried acrylic inks.
I did a simple painting, my interpretation of Anubis. I found that I needed to mount the finished piece on board as it had a tendency to cockle quite badly. I was well pleased with the finished painting and think I could quite easly get used to using this paper. I've been itching to try out some papyrus for ages so I decided to buy some for myself. I bought some off Ebay - 10 sheets 12" x 16" with the intention of doing either coloured pencils or watercolours on it.
In the end it proved too hard for the CPs and difficult for watercolours. My solution was to use ink on it which worked a treat. Will post a photo on the Facebook page tomorrow! |
