I was really pleased with the results and will be doing some new pieces for her to use in future videos.

Recently a local singer/songwriter here on the island used, with my permission, some of my old artwork on one of her music videos.

Just keeping my-self occupied with these doodles during the covid19 crisis. Jackson's artist watercolour on Saunders Waterford 300 g NOT paper. I bought my first metal paint box a good few years ago on the basis that they were strong enough to take a few knocks.
Unfortunately I never took into account a real nuisance problem that might arise. That was rust. There was something in some of the pigments that reacted with the metal clips and corroded them. Eventually it would flake off and fall into the paint. Annoyingly this means that I have had to remove the paints and clean the boxes. Recommendation - stick to using plastic pallets. Sorry that I've not updated the blog for some time. Thought that I would try something a little bit different. I put these 6 small paintings that I had done a few months ago into one multi -aperture mount. It was a bit fiddly but interesting to do. The paintings are all 3.5" x 3.5" watercolours based on the idea of exo-planets that were recently discovered. Hope you like it. I've always like Koh I Noor products so I bought a box of 12 of their jumbo graphite pencils from a seller in the Czech Republic on Ebay. Looking at the pencils I was a bit suspicious that there was no sign of the lead showing at the blunt end of the pencil. I proceeded to cut into the pencil with a craft knife bit by bit until I actually found the lead. I'd lost about 1/4 of the pencil before I reached the lead which to me was a total waste. If this is part of the manufacturing process it will mean that there will be a total loss equivalent to 3 pencils by the time the are all used. I'm not impressed. I will be contacting the company ASAP in case these are rogue pencils that got through.
Another brief update on the Redbubble store. Kaz has now moved her items into a store of her own which you can find here. She is donating proceeds of her womb cancer awareness items to Womb Cancer Support UK which is the organisation she runs.
I have added a few new images to my store over the past few days so please have a look and let me know what you think. You may remember in the last post I said that Kaz had set up a Redbubble store with some of my artwork in plus some of her womb cancer awareness images.
Well, pleased to say that we've had a few sales - mostly of her womb cancer awareness stuff but that's good. I have said I will donate my % of sales (which is 10%) to her not for profit organisation to help with costs so am pleased to be able to help with that. Hopefully I will be able to sell a few bits of my own too but we'll see how it goes. Kaz is doing all the uploading and sorting out - I'll stick to painting and drawing the images!!! Some while back someone suggested that I open a Redbubble account but I wasn't really that interested but Kaz mentioned it again a couple of days ago and I said ok, so she set it up and has put some of my artwork up there.
There is also some photographs that we have taken around the island and some of the womb cancer awareness images that Kaz uses as part of her womb cancer support & awareness organisation. She is still getting the hang of it all but it is now live so please pop over and have a look and let me know what you think. You can find it here I think the manufacturer recommends using these paints straight from the tube but I put mine into plastic pans in a box. The result was that they dried like concrete and shrank considerably. I'm putting some water into the pans which seems to be softening them up but a lot of palaver really. Having said that the paints are generally nice to use. They are nice and transparent and layer quite well, unfortunately they are expensive to buy with only a few retailers in the UK stocking them. One thing I do like about these paints is some of the unusual Australian hues that are available. They add a bit of a different dimension to your work.
Unfortunately the price is a bit of a downer. From £7.50 to £14 for a 10 ml tube. I'm not really sure they are worth that considering other top brands can be bought far cheaper. Over the past few days I have been sorting through my stash of papers. I came across some eco paper that I got from Jacksons. I had used some a few months back but found it very inconsistent. I decided to have another go with it. I used Art Spectrum watercolours but sadly the result was not very good. I found that the fibres were pulling away from the surface of the paper and the finished painting looked very flat and untidy. Then I did the same image on a piece of Bockingford 190g NOT watercolour paper. The difference was easy to see. |
